Simple, raw, placed on the heart of a typical favela, this building provides several free services, training and leisure activities for the poors. Comissioned by a ngo, the object’s aspect should not mean a barrier for the humble user. But, more important than that, was the sense that this design could promote outdoor public spaces, which do not exist in the favela.

The design tries then to offer 4 different qualities of connected free spaces: behind the suspended building with classrooms, there’s a multipurpose sports court; under the classrooms, a covered patio; the main plaza is generous for the crowds; and the steps are a place to rest under the trees that will grow as the people recover their citizenship.
